Uncovering Artists’ Books at Wells Library
Artists’ Books are a modern phenomenon, that take root post WWII. In this presentation you will discover myriad forms of these book works and art works, exemplifying the astounding array of concepts, materials, structures, and processes these books can incorporate, and demonstrating how difficult it is to define the genre. It is this very conundrum that makes them a flexible and inventive vehicle that any artist working in any medium/s can delve into. From elaborate productions to photocopied multiples, we will situate them in an historical context and share examples to portray the range of artists’ books in the collection of the Wells Library at Indiana University, from well-established artists to student work.
