The goals of health education are to maintain healthy student behaviors, change unhealthy student behaviors, and delay the onset of risky behaviors. In order to meet these goals, health education must be rooted in a skills-based approach, focusing the majority of instructional time on student skill development, rather than on solely developing content knowledge. To support that aim, RMC Health is excited to announce the release of our free updated Health Skill Guides. Aligned to National Health Education Standards, RMC Health and national experts, developed vertically aligned Health Skill Guides for the seven health skills: Analyzing Influences, Access Valid & Reliable Resources, Interpersonal Communication, Decision-Making, Goal-Setting, Self-Management, and Advocacy for Self & Others. These updated guides incorporated new research about best practices for culturally responsive teaching, social emotional learning, and engaging, relevant health instruction.
This interactive 60-minute presentation will introduce participants to the Updated Health Skill Guides and the underlying research. Participants will learn about the importance of skills-based health education to promote positive health outcomes for youth. Participants will also learn how to access materials for Health Skills Models through the RMC Health Website.
