Victor Nizet, MD
Physician-Scientist and Distinguished Professor @UCSD
Victor Nizet, MD is a physician-scientist and Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics and Pharmacy at the University of California San Diego (UCSD), where he also serves as the Vice Chair for Basic Research in the Department of Pediatrics and Chief of the Division of Host-Microbe Systems and Therapeutics. A native of Santa Barbara, California and graduate of Reed College in Portland Oregon, he completed medical school at Stanford University, Residency and Chief Residency in pediatrics at Harvard University/Boston Children's Hospital, and Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship training at Seattle Children's Hospital. Since joining UCSD in 1997, Nizet has led a large basic and translational research program focused on discovering virulence factors of invasive bacterial pathogens, elucidating mechanisms of host innate immunity, and innovative approaches to infectious disease therapy. Prof. Nizet has authored over 510 peer-reviewed publications and has collaborated with many academic labs
